Other Voices seeks to collaborate with and create excellent roles for

  • Saturday, July 15, 2017 (from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm) in the Community Room of the Tenderloin Police Station; 301 Eddy St., SF (corner of Eddy and Jones)

Callbacks are by invitation only.   Callbacks will be:

  • Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm in a downtown San Francisco downtown location. 


Requesting an audition:

  • Send an email to Charley@playwrightscentersf.org. with your name and the role(s) in the subject line.  Please include your headshot and resume and your contact info (phone number and email address) in the body of the email. 
  • The $WAMPLAND Team will contact you with a link within www.signmeupgenius.com where you can schedule an audition time.
  • Deadline to sign up for audition is 9:00am on the morning of the desired audition.
  • There will be no required nudity and no simulated acts of a sexual nature.

Selecting an Audition date / time (if invited to Audition):

  • Using a link provided by the SWAMPLAND Team, sign up for ONE FIFTEEN-MINUTE audition slot.
  • In the sign up sheet, select an avaialable date and time; and indicate the role(s) desired in the "Role(s) Auditioning For" field
  • Please prepare sides appropriate for the selected role.  The sides for each role are provided as Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) files in the red white and blue buttons, on this page above.

An Ensemble cast of seven actors will play 25 different roles in seven different one-act plays. All actors should be able to do contemporary comedic and tragic roles.

Note: Configuration of the following ensemble roles may change slightly to best suit the talents of the selected ensemble.

ENSEMBLE 1: African American female playable ages 45-65
This part will play LAUREN, LILY, NANA.
Roles are: LAUREN, woman working with her therapist on dealing with a comotose father who once voted ‘mistakenly” for “the orange man;” LILY, whose husband is dying because of health care “repeal;" and NANA, a retired school teacher who knows better than her daughter how to deal with illegal guns.

ENSEMBLE 2: African American female playable ages 25-45
This part will play KAREN, MIKA, CHRIS.
Roles are: KAREN, a politically radical school teacher who is trying to make a white “friend” understand just how dangerous guns are; MIKA, a lesbian mother who is on the run with her 11 year old daughter; and CHRIS, a subordinate in the Fake News world who begins to have a conscience attack.

ENSEMBLE 3: Hispanic female, playable ages 25-40
This part will play JENNA, GRACE, MARIA.
Roles are: JENNA, a bisexual militant female who is part of the “resistance;” GRACE, a feminist playing a war of tweets against two friends of a different persuasion; and MARIA an “illegal” immigrant trying desperately to cross the border.

ENSEMBLE 4 - Caucasian female, playable ages 18-35 (also an 11 year old)
This part will play HALEY, HANNAH, ANNE, TWEET and TALLY.
HALEY, an 11 year old chronicler of LGBTQ outsiders trying to flee a hostile government; HANNAH, a Jewish American who is dealing with pregnancy, AIDS, and her father’s love; ANNE, an activist teacher who turns to an African American friend for help with a “gun problem;” TWEET, a tweeter in the style of Trump; and TALLY, a peaceful “resistance” protester who is under arrest because of a presidential order.

ENSEMBLE 5Male, any race/ethnicity, playable ages 45-65
This part will play DAD, BRADDOCK, DONGLE and AGENT MARKS.
DAD, an overly-supportive and inappropriately loving Jewish father; BRADDOCK, a border patrol agent on the lookout for foreigners who have the wrong accent; DONGLE, a tweeter with a vengeance; and AGENT MARKS, a federal agent who explains the new legal regime to a young protestor.

ENSEMBLE 6: Caucasian male, playable ages 35-50
This part will play REYNOLDS, RICK and BANNON.  
REYNOLDS, a Border patrol agent who is bored because the wall has stopped immigration; RICK, a gay male, who refuses to believe the government can arrest “all of us,” and BANNON, a head of a fake news company.

ENSEMBLE 7Any gender/gender identity, any race/ethnicity, playable ages 25-40
This part will play CAM, RABBI, JOHN and SCULLY:
CAM, a trans female, fleeing from the governmental police because a far-reaching Constitutional amendment gave the President rights to arrest LGBTQ persons; RABBI, an actor pretending to be a Jewish Rabbi; JOHN, a loyal Republican party member who will do anything to keep his boss in power; and SCULLY an agent of an authoritarian government.


$250 Stipend paid to actors for rehearsal and performance.


Rehearsals begin Saturday, July 29th, 2017 and run through September 9th 2016

  • Weekends: Saturdays (11am to 4:30pm) & Sunday afternoons (Noon to 4:15pm)
  • Weeknights: Wednesday and Thursday evenings. (6:45pm to 9:45pm).
  • "Pick-up" rehearsals: Prior to the second and fourth two performances, TBD.

Rehearsal Locations:

  • Rehearsals will be located in downtown San Francisco.

Four performances only*:

  • Sunday,  September 10th, 2017;  8:30 PM
  • Friday, September 15th, 2017;  8:30 PM
  • Saturday, September 16th, 2017;  4:00 PM
  • Wednesday, September 20th, 2017 ;  8:30 PM.
  • * If the play is selected as "Best of Fringe" there may be a performance on the evening of Saturday September 23 (time TBD)

Call times are one hour before curtain.
All performances will be at the Exit Theatre - Main Stage; 156 Eddy St.; San Francisco, CA 94102 which is central location convenient to BART
